Who We Are

Our Structure

The FIC is the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Government of the Republic of Namibia, established in terms of the Financial Intelligence Act and statutorily mandated to assist with combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism.

What We Do

Intelligence

Collection, processing, and analysis of information, obtained from domestic and international sources. The primary source of information are reports which relate to suspicious transactions or suspicious activity filed by subject persons.

Our main legislation mandate is to protect the financial system from money laundering, terrorism financing, and proliferation financing.

To meet international anti-money laundering standards, the FIU utilizes integrated reporting tools like goAML to streamline the submission of suspicious transaction reports.

The FIC utilises the powers conferred by the Financial Intelligence Act, supported by directives, guidance notes, notices, and other publications, as well as strategic partnerships, to conduct intelligence analysis, supervise compliance, and safeguard the integrity of Namibia’s financial system.

Anti-Money Laundering
Receiving and analysing suspicious transaction (STR) and suspicious activity reports (SAR) for possible commission of criminal offences and subsequent dissemination of information to Law Enforcement Agencies and Foreign Financial Intelligence Units.
Accountable & Transparent Institutions

Ensuring Accountable and Reporting Institutions, representatives of financial institutions, non-banking financial institutions and designated non-financial businesses and professions fulfil obligations under the Financial Intelligence Act, 2012

Ensuring FIA Compliance

Monitor, supervise and enforce compliance with the FIA by institutions listed on Schedule 1 and 3 of this Act. Additionally we issue guidance, conduct outreach and support accountable and reporting institutions in meeting their AML/CFT/CPF obligations.

Law Enforcement Agency Collaboration

Advance the use and integration of intelligence in investigations. The Division advances by facilitating the formation of multi-agency integrated investigation task teams (IITTs) for complex and priority cases.

Analysis of Financial Transactions

Requesting information from Accountable and Reporting Institutions, Law Enforcement Agencies and Foreign Financial Intelligence Units for analysis purposes.
